Renshi Kim Singh, Chief Instructor, Coos Bay Dojo
Kim started training when she was 28 years old. She started out in a style known as Shuri Ryu and received her 2nd degree black in Monterey, CA under Sensei Neil Miyamoto. When she moved to Merced, CA her style was not available and she trained in various styles for a few years including, Okinawan Uechi Ryu under Sensei Greg Brown, Filipino Chinese Kemscrimah-Doh Kempo Karate under Sifu Glen Abrescy. She was introduced to Kyoshi Sid Rayford in the mid 1990's and found a home with the WOSKKA family (world okinawan shorin ryu karate and kobudo association) where she has been ever since. Sensei Singh's first school was at her church, then moved to her own location where today her then senior student Sensei Tony Deziga is running his own school now. Other accomplishments that she has been personally involved in and awards received are: Red Cross Acknowledgement Award for her schools participation in a kick-a-thon fund raiser in 1998 and 2000...Presidential Sports Award for karate 1998...WOSKKA Best Overall Kata Artist 2003...WOSKKA Best Tournament Point Fighter Black Belt 2004...WOSKKA Best Advanced Kata Black Belt 2004...Masters Hall of Fame for Outstanding Contributions in the Martials Arts 2006. Kim recently traveled to Merced, CA to test for the rank of Renshi. After 4 hours of testing and sweat she obtained the rank of Renshi. June 14th, 2008.
Sensei Kira Henderson - Nidan, has returned to Coos Bay after a short moving adventure to NE Oregon. We are happy that she is back in the area! Kira has been training off and on since she was about 5 years old. She loves to spar and is a great asset to the school and loves to teach..
Sensei Thomas King
Thomas comes to the dojo with an extensive background in Aikido and various military and correctional training. Currently he is the senior assistant instructor. He tested for his Nidan on May 17th 2008, a very long 4 hours of work and sweat, congradulations!
Sensei Walt Hardman
Sensei Hardman has got to be one of the most hard working and dedicated individuals that I know. He is always there and always willing to lend a hand to teach. He is the ultimate "Dojo Rat"
Walt received his Shodan (1st black) on November 10th, 2007. Great job!
Sensei Sam Werst
Sensei Werst came to us very shy and quiet but very willing to train. He has a soft heart but a spirit for training. Always asking questions and coming up with ideas for techniques he is a definite benefit to the dojo. Sam received his Shodan (1st black) November 10th, 2007... hard working guy.
